About AVV Institutions
Andhra Vidyabhi Vardhani Sangham, Warangal — a heritage group of educational institutions serving Telangana since 1944.
Eighty years of educational service in Warangal
AVV Institutions, Warangal comprise AVV High School, AVV Junior College and AVV Degree & PG College, all managed by AVV Sangham (Andhra Vidyabhi Vardhani Sangham) and located centrally along SVN Road in Matwada, Warangal. Affiliated to the Government of Telangana and Kakatiya University, these legacy institutions have served generations of local students who came from homes where education was a distant dream.
The story begins in the erstwhile Hyderabad State under the Nizam's rule, when the people of Telangana faced severe restrictions on their language, education and cultural identity. Urdu was the sole medium of instruction from primary school to university, and Telugu-speaking families were often denied the opportunity to learn and express themselves in their mother tongue. Against this backdrop, a group of committed citizens led by Acharya Chanda Kanthaiah Shresti formed the Andhra Vidyabhi Vardhani Sangham in 1944 with a single ambition: education through the mother tongue.
To realise this vision, the founder contributed an extraordinary ₹72,000 for the establishment of the school — a remarkable amount in those days — and further donated his 0-8-3 share in the Rice Mill, valued at approximately ₹3,00,000, to the Sangham to ensure the institution's long-term sustainability. As a result, the Andhra Vidyabhi Vardhani (AVV) School was inaugurated on 29 November 1945.
What began as a single school has grown into a full educational pathway. The High School entered the Grant-In-Aid system in 1951 and was upgraded into a Multi-Purpose High School in 1958. AVV Junior College was established in 1970 and admitted into Grant-in-Aid in 1977. AVV Degree & P.G. College followed in 1991, was elevated into a P.G. College in 2007, granted permanent affiliation in 2008, and recognised under sections 2(f) and 12(b) in 2013. In 2019 the institutions celebrated their Platinum Jubilee — seventy-five years of unbroken service to Warangal.
Today AVV Institutions educate students from Class VI right through to postgraduate level. The High School and Junior College follow English medium instruction, the Junior College offers M.P.C., Bi.P.C. and C.E.C. streams under the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education, and the Degree & PG College offers eight undergraduate programmes spanning arts, commerce, management and science — including forward-looking streams such as Business Analytics and Data Science.
Being a grant-in-aid group, AVV keeps education genuinely affordable for families of the Warangal region. Yet affordability has never meant compromise: experienced faculty, well-equipped science and computer laboratories, a library, sports facilities, yoga, cultural programmes, literary competitions and an active National Service Scheme unit together shape students who are academically strong and socially responsible.
AVV Institutions proudly carry forward the ideals of Acharya Chanda Kanthaiah Shresti by providing quality, value-based education while upholding the principles of service, equality and excellence. His legacy continues to guide every step of the institution, making him an enduring symbol of educational transformation and social commitment in Telangana.
