BIOGRAPHY

A life dedicated to the service of society through education

Late Acharya Chanda Kanthaiah Shresti was a distinguished philanthropist, social reformer, visionary educationist and selfless humanitarian whose life was dedicated to the service of society through education. Born on 28 November 1904 Karthika Bahula Shasti according to the Telugu calendar to Sri Chanda Rathnaiah and Smt. Jaggamma, he possessed extraordinary wisdom and leadership despite having no formal education. He was fluent in Telugu, Urdu and Sanskrit, reflecting his deep love for language and culture.

During the Nizam's rule in the erstwhile Hyderabad State, the people of Telangana faced severe restrictions on their language, education and cultural identity. Access to education was limited, and Urdu was the sole medium of instruction from primary school to university. Telugu-speaking people were often denied the opportunity to learn and express themselves in their mother tongue.

Deeply moved by these injustices, Acharya Chanda Kanthaiah Shresti dedicated himself to the cause of educational and social reform. With unwavering determination, he envisioned an institution that would provide quality education through the mother tongue and empower future generations with knowledge, values and cultural pride.

To realise this noble vision, he made an extraordinary contribution of ₹72,000 for the establishment of the school a remarkable amount in those days. He further donated his 0-8-3 share in the Rice Mill, valued at approximately ₹3,00,000, to the Andhra Vidyabhi Vardhani Sangham to ensure the institution's long-term sustainability and growth.

As a result of his generosity and foresight, the Andhra Vidyabhi Vardhani (AVV) School was inaugurated on 29 November 1945. Over the decades, his vision has flourished into a group of respected educational institutions, nurturing thousands of students and contributing immensely to society.

Today, AVV Institutions proudly carry forward his ideals by providing quality, value-based education while upholding the principles of service, equality and excellence. His inspiring legacy continues to guide every step of the institution, making him an enduring symbol of educational transformation and social commitment.
